What people are saying about

www.monarchpublishers.com

"Excellent resource in the classroom as well as at home. This unique effort by two talented school board members who are recognized for their support of early childhood education encourages parent/child reading and a shared appreciation for the worlds of art and nature.  A pleasure for all ages.”  Richard W. Riley, Former U.S. Secretary of Education

“To accompany this lovely story, the author and illustrator have put together an exceptional web site www.monarchpublishers.com with superior teaching resources.” Sharon Kazee, Dean/Vice President for Arts and Academics for the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities

"Jake and the Migration of the Monarch" is entertaining and educational for both parents and children. Jake and his mom are sitting on their porch at the beach when they realize they're in the midst of the autumn migration of the monarch butterflies. Readers are referred to the Web site, www.monarchpublishers.com "to learn more about the world of monarch butterflies." This is an excellent site for both parents and teachers because it provides myriad ways to extend learning into physical activities, drama, language arts, math, music, science, social studies and visual art. There are things to do, make and grow. There's a list of places to go, and an invitation to submit your own "stuff" to the site.  The whole concept of "extending" learning has been used in schools for a long time. The book makes this concept readily available to families.  The book serves as the beginning step into a whole world of knowledge and activities.  Review by Fran Hawk, Charleston Post and Courier, Oct. 20, 2005.

“I recommend this impressive, creative book and web site.  Informative, engaging, and provides opportunities for active learning.  Most importantly, it makes the learning of science fun!”  Randy Dozier, Ph.D.  Superintendent of Education, Georgetown County Schools.

”Captures the special closeness between mother and child, reminds us of the importance of family, and invites us to explore one of the marvels of nature—monarch butterfly migration. I encourage you to take the journey on this website with a special child in your life or your classroom by reading the story, then investigating the informative and entertaining guides and activities offered in this website. Through reading, science, the arts and creative play, enjoy your flight."     Tunky Riley, Former First Lady of South Carolina, Board Member Success by Six & Alliance for Quality Education

Jake and the Migration of the Monarch is so well written and illustrated that children (and adults, too) will feel as if they are inside the story and experiencing all of it in real life.  It is a good example of the impact that a well written and well illustrated book can have on a reader, whatever the reader's age.  The thorough and practical curriculum integration materials that accompany the book, on CD and on the website, help to ensure that it is not only good reading, but that teachers have well prepared resource tools that they can use to help their students meet curriculum requirements in multiple subject areas.   Morenga Hunt, Education Director, Education Institute, NC Blumenthal Performing Arts Center

I have found your web site very informative and helpful. I hope to get the book really soon. I am a future preschool teacher and I can’t wait to use this book and web site in the classroom and with my own children.  My four year old daughter thinks your web site is great too.   Tonya Jones

Selected for review in READING MATTERS, Journal of International Reading Association.  Assistant Professor of Reading Education Jonda C. McNair Ph.D. recognizes the book, CD and teaching resources featured on web site.

“A great learning tool for our treasure's of today and our preservation-minded citizens of tomorrow!”   Joe Ball, Trust for Public Land, Georgia

“Wonderful resources.  Most valuable in my teaching.  It's wonderful to be able to have an extraordinary children’s book and ideas on the web site that you're eager to share with team members and, most importantly, students. “  Georgetown Teacher Evaluations, Tanieka Greggs
