What Heath Springs Elementary School said about Author Crystal Ball
O'Connor's visit:
“The children,
faculty and parents quickly embraced Crystal Ball O’Connor,
Ph.D, as one of our own here at Heath Springs Elementary
School. Dr. O’Connor was able to meet with each individual
class. Meeting with small groups provided a more intimate
opportunity for Dr. O’Connor to interact personally with the
students and their teachers as she shared her book, Jake
and the Migration of the Monarch. Dr. O’Connor was able
to call individual children by name as they discussed ways to
embrace experiences and ideas to create wonderful writing
opportunities. This visiting author was very real to the
students and not much different from themselves. The students
and teachers will be able to refer to the information Dr.
O’Connor shared with them those days in the library all
throughout the years to come. I highly recommend this
experience for children of all ages. The professional
development activities provided the teachers opportunities to
experience very engaging ways to integrate standards from
various subject areas into one activity. We can’t wait until
Dr. O’Connor comes back in the spring to share her new book,
Katherine’s Quilt Made for Dreaming, with our 4th and
